Obiettivi formativi
In linea con gli obiettivi formativi del Corso di Laurea, l'insegnamento in questione si propone di fornire le competenze specifiche necessarie ad affrontare la comprensione e l'interpretazione storica di un documento epigrafico e a metterlo in relazione con il contesto storico che l'ha prodotto. In particolare, il corso intende illustrare, attraverso la lettura e il commento di una serie di iscrizioni, il rilievo documentario del manufatto epigrafico al fine di comprendere la grande storia contemporaea delle città greche.
In line with the educational objectives of the degree course, the course in question will provide the specific skills needed to deal with the understanding and the historical interpretation of a written document and to relate it to the historical context that produced it. In particular, the course aims to illustrate, through the reading and discussion of some inscriptions, the documentary importance of an epigraphic artefact in order to understand the great contemporary history of Greek cities.

Al termine del corso lo Studente avrà conseguito:
- una conoscenza approfondita dei testi epigrafici presi in esame e delle problematiche storiche, sociali ed evenemenziali ad essi connesse;
- la capacità di mettere in relazione le diverse serie documentarie disponibili nella ricerca storica: fonti letterarie, fonti epigrafiche e fonti archeologiche;
- la capacità di affrontare autonomamente un testo epigrafico: lettura, traduzione, datazione, commento paleografico, inquadramento linguistico e letterario, interpretazione storica;
- la capacità di comunicare in modo efficace e chiaro, mediante l'uso del lessico specifico della disciplina, le conoscenze acquisite e le riflessioni elaborate autonomamente in merito alle tematiche e ai problemi posti da un testo epigrafico.
At the end of the course, the Student will have achieved:
- thorough knowledge of the addressed epigraphic texts and of related historical, social and evenemential issues;
- ability to relate the different series of evidence: literary sources, epigraphic sources, archaeological sources;
- ability to independently deal with the examination of an epigraphic text: reading, translation, dating, palaeographic commentary, linguistic and literary background, historical interpretation;
- ability to effectively and clearly communicate, through the use of the specialized vocabulary, the acquired knowledge and the reflections elaborated about the principal issues posed by an epigraphic text.

Modalità di insegnamento
Ciclo di lezioni della durata di 36 ore complessive (6 CFU).
L'insegnamento sarà svolto in forma seminariale, con partecipazione attiva degli studenti e addestramento anche pratico alla lettura delle iscrizioni.
Le lezioni prevedono l'uso del videoproiettore e di strumenti interattivi (Power Point). I testi delle epigrafi (apografi, fotografie e trascrizioni) saranno forniti in fotocopia nel corso delle lezioni.
Series of lectures lasting 36 hours in total (6 CFU).
The form of teaching is that of a seminar, with active participation by students and practical training in reading inscriptions. In the course the teacher will present also unpublished inscriptions to train the student to prepare a critical and scientific edition.
The lessons involve the use of the projector and interactive tools (Power Point).
The texts of the inscriptions (apographs, pictures and transcriptions) will be provided in photocopy during the course.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Le conoscenze e le capacità previste saranno verificate attraverso un esame orale. Le domande partiranno sempre dall'esame di un testo epigrafico.
La preparazione sarà considerata adeguata (con votazione espressa in trentesimi):
- se lo studente dimostrerà un'adeguata conoscenza dei temi e delle problematiche trattate;
- se lo studente sarà in grado di esporre i temi trattati con il lessico appropriato e specifico della disciplina;
- se lo studente dimostrerà la capacità di affrontare autonomamente l'esame di un testo epigrafico,
dimostrando in particolare di saperlo interpretare correttamente in una prospettiva storica;
- se lo studente si dimostrerà in grado di mettere in relazione proficuamente le diverse serie documentarie.
The expected knowledge and skills will be verified through an oral examination. Questions always will start by examining epigraphic texts.
The preparation will be considered adequate (with grade expressed in thirtieths):
- if the student will demonstrate an adequate knowledge of the addressed topics and issues ;
- if the student will be able to present the addressed topics with the appropriate vocabulary, specific of the discipline;
- if the student will be able to independently deal with the examination of an epigraphic text, demonstrating in particular to be able to interpret it in a historical perspective;
- if the student will be able to relate profitably the different documentary series.

Attività di supporto
Come attività integrativa rispetto al corso è previsto un Laboratorio di Epigrafia Greca e Latina (24 ore; 2 CFU), di cui 12 ore sono dedicate all'Epigrafia Greca. Esso affronterà gli aspetti più pratici della disciplina, mediante esercitazioni presso i locali musei cittadini.

"Coloro che combattono in prima fila". L'esaltazione dei caduti in guerra nelle iscrizioni del mondo greco.
Le iscrizioni greche ci testimoniano l'attenzione che le città antiche e le famiglie riservarono a coloro che caddero in occasioni belliche a partire dall'età arcaica fino all'età classica. I testi preservati su pietra consentono di avanzare nella conoscenza dell'epigrafia greca e insieme del panorama storico che ha prodotto tale importante documentazione.

Per gli studenti frequentanti, la preparazione dell'esame dovrà essere condotta sugli appunti e sul materiale didattico distribuito a lezione. Nella seconda parte del corso ogni studente, a seconda dei propri interessi, approfondirà un testo epigrafico ed il suo contesto storico.
Gli studenti non frequentanti sono invitati a prendere direttamente e tempestivamente contatto con il docente (enrica.culasso@unito.it). Sarà concordato per essi un programma specifico.

For attending students, the exam will be conducted on notes and teaching materials distributed in class. In the second part of the course each student, depending on their interests, will examine an inscription and its historical context.
Non-attending students are asked to take direct and timely contact with the teacher. A specific program will be agreed.

Il corso di Epigrafia greca, modulo 1 è propedeutico al modulo 2. È impossibile sostenere il modulo 2 senza aver già sostenuto (contestualmente o in precedenza) il modulo 1.
Per entrambi i moduli è necessaria la conoscenza del greco antico, anche ad un livello elementare.
Dato il carattere pratico e tecnico della disciplina, la frequenza è vivamente consigliata. Chi fosse impossibilitato a frequentare le lezioni è invitato a prendere direttamente contatto con il docente.
E' richiesta la registrazione al corso.
L'esame è iterabile.
The course is intended for students of all degree programs.
The course of Greek Epigraphy, module 1 is a prerequisite to the module 2. It is impossible to attend the module 2 without have already attended the module 1 (in the same time or earlier).
For each module a basic knowledge of ancient Greek language is required.
Given the practical and technical nature of the discipline, regular attendance is strongly recommended. If you are unable to attend, you are invited to contact directly and promptly the professor in charge.
It's possible to iterate the course.
