Obiettivi formativi
Il corso mira a fornire allo studente una conoscenza di base del sistema di scrittura cuneiforme e le competenze necessarie per la lettura, traduzione e analisi critica di testi elementari in lingua sumerica, utilizzando prevalentemente fonti di epoca neo-sumerica (2112-2004 a.C.).
The course aims to provide students with a basic knowledge of the cuneiform writing stystem and with the necessary skills to read, translate, and analyse texts written in Sumerian language (basic level). For this purpose, textual sources dating to the Neo-Sumerian period will be studied.

Al termine del corso lo studente avrà acquisito familiarità con la scrittura cuneiforme e con i principali strumenti di lavoro dell’epigrafia sumero-accadica. Avrà inoltre sviluppato una conoscenza di base della lingua sumerica e sarà in grado di leggere e tradurre testi cuneiformi di livello elementare.
Lo studente imparerà ad applicare le corrette metodologie per l’analisi storico-filologica e sarà in grado di utilizzare in maniera critica le fonti epigrafiche per lo studio delle civiltà mesopotamiche.
At the end of the semester, students will have mastered the elementary level of cuneiform writing and learned how to use the appropriate bibliographic tools to approach Mesopotamian epigraphy. Furthermore, students will develop a basic-level knowledge of the Sumerian language and the related bibliographic and online resources.
Students will be able to read Neo-Sumerian cuneiform texts (basic level), to apply an appropriate methodology for the historical and philological analysis of these sources, and to properly use epigraphic evidence for the study of the Mesopotamian civilization.

Didattica online svolta con l’ausilio di presentazioni PowerPoint e di altro materiale fornito dal docente. Seguirano esercitazioni che prevedono la lettura e l'analisi guidata di testi in sumerico al fine di favorire l’assimilazione delle regole grammaticali e l’apprendimento del lessico di base e del sistema grafico cuneiforme.
Online teaching with the aid of PowerPoint presentations and additional bibliographic resources provided by the teacher. Practice on epigraphy and grammar (basic-level) and guided reading of Sumerian texts.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
La verifica delle conoscenze acquisite si baserà su un esame orale con domande relative alle tematiche affrontate durante il corso e alle letture indicate in bibliografia. Per la valutazione sarà verificata la capacità dello studente di leggere i testi in cuneiforme discussi a lezione e di analizzarne correttamente la grammatica e la sintassi. Lo studente dovrà inoltre dimostrare una adeguata preparazione, capacità espositiva e padronanza della terminologia appropriata.
The acquired knowledge will be evaluated during frontal exams, when students will be tested on the topics discussed in class and the bibliographic references addressed by the teacher. Evaluation will be based on the student’s capacity to read the cuneiform documents presented in class and to analyse both their grammar and sintax. Students will be required to have mastered an adequate knowledge of the topics and a proper competence of the specific terminology.
