Obiettivi formativi
Il corso intende avviare gli studenti a una conoscenza avanzata dell’epigrafia greca, attraverso la lettura e il commento di testi epigrafici di età classica ed ellenistica. Parte del corso sarà svolto in forma seminariale, con esercitazione diretta sui documenti.
The course intends to initiate students to an advanced knowledge of Greek epigraphy, through reading and discussing epigraphic texts of classical and Hellenistic periods. Part of the course will be conducted in seminar format, with direct training of students on the documents.

La preparazione dello studente sarà accertata attraverso un esame orale. L’obiettivo della prova è quello di verificare che lo studente padroneggi i contenuti specifici del corso e che li esponga con proprietà di lessico e secondo un’impostazione logica coerente.
Già durante le lezioni gli studenti saranno invitati ad approfondire ed esporre temi di loro scelta, esercitandosi su una corretta metodologia di apprendimento e di esposizione.
The preparation of the student will be assessed through an oral exam. The objective of the test is to verify that the student mastered the specific content of the course and explain it with lexical property and according to a consistent logic.
Already during the course students will be invited to explore and expound subjects of their choice, as well as to exercise on a correct methodology of learning and exposing.

Spie, informatori, quinte colonne, traditori o semplicemente ospiti? Il corso intende considerare alcuni esempi epigrafici per illustrare il ruolo dei prosseni nel mondo greco. Costoro furono presenti in tutte le città e prestarono la loro opera per un’ampia gamma di funzioni, che potevano includere anche azioni di tradimento, oltre che di spionaggio militare e politico, a favore di un’altra città. I prosseni in sostanza si sentivano cittadini di due comunità: la propria e l’altra, a vantaggio della quale non esitavano a impegnarsi come se si trattasse di una seconda patria. Attraverso la lettura dei documenti epigrafici si può ricostruire la storia di un’istituzione che giocò un ruolo di primo piano nelle relazioni internazionali tra le città greche e nel panorama delle antiche forme di imperialismo.
Saranno lette e commentate iscrizioni di V e di IV secolo a. C.
Spies, informers, fifth columnists, traitors or simply guests? The course aims to consider some epigraphic examples to illustrate the role of proxenes in the Greek world. They were present in all cities and lent their work to a wide range of functions, which could also include acts of treason, as well as political and military intelligence gathering, in favour of another city. The proxenes in substance felt as citizens of two communities: their own and the other, to the benefit of which they did not hesitate to engage as if it was a second motherland. Through the reading of the inscriptions, one can reconstruct the history of an institution, which played a leading role in the international relations of the Greek cities and in the panorama of ancient forms of imperialism.
We will read and comment on inscriptions of V and IV century BC.

Il corso prevede una parte di lezioni svolte direttamente sul materiale epigrafico, per insegnare agli studenti i criteri di una corretta autopsia epigrafica. Si prevede un viaggio di studio aperto a tutti gli studenti. Qualora il Dipartimento conceda fondi specifici, questi saranno usati per cofinanziare parzialmente le spese di viaggio degli studenti.
Il corso è aperto agli studenti che abbiano già frequentato il modulo propedeutico di Epigrafia greca
The course provide for lessons carried out in the field, directly on the epigraphic material, to teach students the criteria for a proper epigraphic autopsy. The course contemplates a study trip, which will be open to all students. If the Department grants specific funds, these will be used to co-finance part of the cost of student travel.
The course is open to students who have already attended the introductory module of Greek Epigraphy.
