Obiettivi formativi
In linea con gli obiettivi formativi del Corso di Laurea, il Laboratorio di Epigrafia Greca si propone di introdurre gli studenti alle competenze specifiche necessarie ad affrontare la lettura e l’esegesi di un’iscrizione greca. Particolare attenzione sarà dedicata agli aspetti pratici della disciplina.In alignment with the learning objectives of the Degree Course, the Laboratory of Greek Epigraphy intends to introduce students to the specific skills they need to deal with the reading and interpretation of a Greek inscription. Gli studenti si eserciteranno praticamente nella produzione della "scheda epigrafica" di un’iscrizione, acquisendo non solo competenze specifiche in merito all’edizione e alla ricerca bibliografica specialistica, ma anche un’esperienza di prima mano con le pietre.Al termine del Laboratorio lo studente avrà conseguito:
- la capacità di osservare e descrivere un’epigrafe con attenzione agli aspetti fisici del documento: stato di conservazione, materiale e forma del supporto, descrizione degli eventuali frammenti che la compongono, misurazione delle lettere, paleografia, impaginazione, analisi stilistica dell’apparato iconografico se presente etc.;
- la capacità di eseguire la riproduzione di un’epigrafe mediante la tecnica del calco cartaceo (cd. squeeze);
- la capacità di redigere una "scheda epigrafica" secondo le convenzioni comunemente adottate;
- la capacità di ricercare la bibliografia specialistica, avvalendosi delle banche dati digitali illustrate a lezione.
Students will practice in the production of the "epigraphic record" of an inscription, gaining not only instruction in editorial practice and specialist bibliographic skills but also practical first-hand experience with the stones.On completion of the Laboratory a student should have achieved:
- the ability to observe and describe an epigraph with attention to the physical aspects of the document: state of conservation, material and form of the support, description of any fragments that compose it, letters measurement, paleography, mise en page, stylistic analysis of the iconographic apparatus if it is present etc.;
- the ability to reproduce an epigraph making a squeeze;
- the ability to compile an "epigraphic record" according to the commonly adopted conventions;
- the ability to search specialist bibliography relating to an epigraph, using the digital databases illustrated in class.

Modalità di insegnamento
L’insegnamento sarà svolto in forma seminariale e prevede la partecipazione attiva degli studenti e l’addestramento pratico alla lettura e all’interpretazione delle iscrizioni. Le lezioni prevedono la distribuzione di materiale didattico e l’uso del videoproiettore. Le presentazioni saranno messe a disposizione degli studenti. Un’esperienza di prima mano con le pietre sarà garantita mediante la visita alle collezioni di epigrafi greche conservate nei musei cittadini (Museo di Antichità e Museo Egizio) e mediante esercitazioni su calchi in resina posseduti dal Laboratorio di Epigrafia dell’Università di Torino.Cycle of lessons lasting 16 hours in total (2 CFU). The course will be performed as a seminar and involves the active participation of students. They will be practically trained to read and interpret inscriptions. The lessons include the distribution of teaching material and the use of the projector. The presentations will be made available to students. A first-hand experience with stones will be guaranteed by visiting the collections of Greek epigraphs preserved in the city museums (Museum of Antiquities and Egyptian Museum) and through exercises on resin casts owned by the Laboratory of Epigraphy of the University of Turin.- Oggetto:
Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
L’acquisizione delle competenze attese sarà verificata mediante un’esercitazione scritta che consisterà nella redazione della “scheda epigrafica” di un’iscrizione assegnata. La docente esprimerà una valutazione in termini di esame passato/non passato. Gli studenti Erasmus possono redigere la scheda epigrafica in francese o inglese.The acquisition of the expected skills will be verified by means of a written exercise that will consist in the compiling of the "epigraphic record" of an assigned inscription. The teacher will express an evaluation in terms of past / not passed exam. Erasmus students can write the epigraphic record in French or English.- Oggetto:

Il Laboratorio affronterà una serie di tematiche relative all’analisi dei documenti epigrafici nella loro evidenza materiale di fonte documentaria. In particolare, sulla base di una selezione di casi studio, si esamineranno vari temi relativi alla produzione di un’iscrizione: ad esempio, le tipologie di materiali e di supporto, gli strumenti e le tecniche dei lapicidi, l’organizzazione del testo nello specchio epigrafico, la presenza di apparati iconografici, la forma delle lettere come criterio di datazione, l’identificazione della mano del lapicida. Si affronteranno in dettaglio le diverse questioni relative alla frammentarietà delle iscrizioni (corretta descrizione dei frammenti) e alla trascrizione di un testo epigrafico lacunoso (integrazione, segni diacritici). Si illustreranno e si realizzeranno praticamente alcune delle tecniche di riproduzione delle epigrafi. Si offrirà una panoramica dei principali strumenti bibliografici e informatici per lo studio delle iscrizioni greche, con particolare attenzione alle banche dati digitali.The Laboratory will address a series of issues related to the analysis of the epigraphs in their material dimension, as a documentary source. In particular, on the basis of a selection of case studies, various themes relating to the production of an inscription will be taken into consideration: for example, the types of materials and support, the tools and techniques of the lapicide, the organization of the text in the epigraphic field, the presence of an iconographic apparatus, the shape of the letters as a dating criterion, the identification of the hand of the lapicide. We will address in detail various questions relating to the fragmentary nature of the inscriptions (correct description of the fragments) and the transcription of an incomplete text (integration, diacritical signs). Some of the epigraph reproduction techniques will be practically illustrated and implemented. An overview of the main bibliographic and IT resources for the study of Greek epigraphs will be offered, with particular attention to digital databases.Testi consigliati e bibliografia

The documents distributed to the students and the presentations of the lessons are considered as an integral part of the teaching material. Further readings on the topics covered will be recommended during the course.

Il Laboratorio è aperto agli studenti di tutti i corsi di laurea. In particolare, gli studenti del Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Archeologia e Storia Antica e quelli del Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Filologia e Letterature e Storia dell’Antichità possono conseguire 2 CFU. Il conseguimento dei 2 CFU è subordinato alla frequenza dell’intero Laboratorio (16 ore) e all’attiva partecipazione degli studenti alle attività proposte.Per evidenti ragioni, la conoscenza della lingua e dell’epigrafia greca è prerequisito fondamentale.
Ovviamente le modalità di svolgimento dell'attività didattica potranno subire variazioni in base alle limitazioni imposte dalla crisi sanitaria in corso. È comunque assicurata la modalità di insegnamento a distanza. Eventualmente, se necessario, opportune modifiche potranno essere apportate al programma del Laboratorio.
The Laboratory is open to students from all Degree Courses. In particular, students of the courses of Archeology and Ancient History as well as of Philology, Literature and History of Antiquity can get 2 CFU. The achievement of the 2 CFU is subject to the attendance at the whole course (16 hours) and to active participation of the students in the proposed activities.For obvious reasons, knowledge of Greek language and epigraphy is a fundamental prerequisite.
The teaching method may vary according to the limitations imposed by the ongoing health crisis. However, distance learning is guaranteed. If necessary, appropriate changes will be made to the Laboratory program.
