Gli studenti acquisiranno le competenze per leggere un testo letterario sumerico in scrittura cuneiforme, tradurlo, comprenderne il significato e contestualizzarlo.
Students are expected to read a Sumerian literary text in cuneiform script, translate it, understand its meaning, and place it in the context of Mesopotamian literature.

L'insegnamento 2023-24 verterà sugli incantesimi sumerici. Una selezione di incantesimi sumerici dall'età paleo-babilonese al primo millennio verrà letta in classe. I testi verranno letti direttamente dal cuneiforme.
In the Spring 24 term, students will read a selection of Sumerian incantations from the Old Babylonian period to the first millennium. Students are expected to read texts in cuneiform.

Modalità di insegnamento
L'insegnamento avverrà esclusivamente in forma seminariale con la partecipazione attiva degli studenti (da soli o in gruppo) i quali dovranno preparare (fin dalla prima lezione) il testo oggetto dell'insegnamento. I testi saranno preparati sulla base delle fotografie o autoggrafie pubblicate in formato cartaceo o online (CDLI).
Alle studentesse e agli studenti che siano impossibilitati a frequentare le lezioni in presenza sarà assicurata la possibilità di fruire di materiale didattico e di sostituire la frequenza delle lezioni in presenza con lo studio del/i volumi sotto indicato/i (oltre a quello/i obbligatorio/i per tutti), rispetto al/ai quale/i il docente assicura supporto allo studio e alla preparazione dell'esame.
Teaching will exclusively be in seminar format with the active participation of students who will have to prepare (from the first class) the text(s). Students will read texts on photographs or copies pubblished in paper version or online (CDLI).

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Le conoscenze degli studenti verranno verificate attraverso un esame scritto e orale. L'esame scritto consisterà nella lettura e traduzione di un passo dei testi letti in classe (in cuneiforme). L'esame orale verterà sul contesto culturale e letterario dei testi letti in classe sulla base di letture indicate dal docente.
Student knowledge will be tested through written and oral exams. In the writte exam students will have to read and translate passages from the texts read in class (in cuneiform). In the oral exam, students will be questioned about the literary and cultural context of the texts read in class.

As the course requires the active participation of students and because learning Akkadian by themselves is highly complicated, students are highly encouraged to attend the course in person.
